King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in Saudi Arabia is a 6.5 million-sq. ft. 26 billion dollar research facility with living accommodations for students and faculty situated about 90 km north of Jeddah on the Red Sea coast. Vitatech was contracted by HOK Architects to simulate magnetic field emissions from the electrical distribution system, predict the DC EMI impact from multiple elevators and recommend mitigation (i.e., TEM lab magnetic shielding design, etc.) to ensure optimal imaging quality for twelve (12) FEI TEMs/SEMs (two Titan 80-300s, Tecnai T12, Titan Krios, Titan CyroTwin, Nova Nano- SEM 630, Quanta 200 FEG, Magellan, Quanta 600 FEG, Helios NanoLab 400S, Quanta 3D, etc.), 20,000 sq. ft. Class 1000/Class 100 cleanroom, and ten (10) Bruker Advance III NMRs (400 MHz to new 22.3 Tesla 950 MHz).
ARAMCO was the Construction Manager with Saudi OGER as the General Contractor. Vitatech was contracted by OGER International, in Paris, France, to project manage on-site construction for TEM lab magnetic shielding and perform all final performance testing. Final AC ELF and DC testing showed full compliance with 10 nTp-p (0.1 mGp-p) AC ELF and DC (elevator) EMI magnetic field performance objectives for all SEM/TEM research laboratories, cleanroom and NMR area.

To ensure low AC/DC EMI levels within the Imaging and TEM/SEM laboratories
EMF survey data analysis determined that AC extremely low frequency (ELF) magnetic fields emanated from the electrical distribution feeders adjacent and above the rooms, UPS, Equipment Chases.
AC ELF magnetic shielding systems were installed in six TEM and eight SEM rooms.
Post shield magnetic flux density levels were less than 0.1mG Peak-to-Peak
