Virginia Commonwealth University

The Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Sanger Hall, is a mixture of academic, administrative offices and research laboratories used by the VCU School of Medicine.  Vitatech performed an initial full-spectrum room survey to assess the ambient building conditions with a turn-key mitigation plan to meet the specification requirements of a new Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM).  The TEM instrument, a Tecnai G2 T20 Twin TEM, demands an ambient AC ELF environment not exceeding 0.30 mG RMS for optimal performance.  The survey also identified that elevated DC differential emissions were captured from elevator usage within the building, and recommended a remedial course of action which included DC active compensation at the instrumentation column post shielding installation. To the clients request, the instrument was installed within the exposed shielded room.
