Childrens Hospital Los Angeles

The New Patient Tower at the Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles (LACH) came to Vitatech for EMI consulting to minimize the EMF exposure, achieving a 5 mG threshold within the facility. A full-spectrum analysis of the environment determined the main soucres of concern were the main switchgear and electrical closets. Vitatech simulated magnetic fields emanating from these sources within adjacent areas such as patient/staff areas, data rooms and lab suites hosting scientific/medical diagnostic instrumentation. An assessment of the potential EMI impact and EMF human exposure issues was produced to show a “worst case” 75% peak load. Given the various concerns of the client to not only facilitate a safe environment for human health, all data rooms and research equipment also required significantly reduced EMF throughout the hospital. Vitatech designed all AC ELF magnetic shielding systems and provided on-site construction support to the installer to guarantee the performance criteria of less than 5 mG RMS. We would like to acknowledge Berg Electric for their highly skilled expertise as professional electricians for installing the New Patient Tower low voltage electrical distribution system.
