Vitatech was retained by Wilson Architects in 2003 to perform an EMI/RFI assessment of the proposed Harvard LISE (Laboratory Interface Science and Engineering) building. Vitatech performed AC ELF and DC simulated site modeling of the EMI/RFI environment, made shielding recommendations, issued the shielding performance specification and engineered room specific shielding designs to mitigate the EMI effect on sensitive laboratory tools.
VitaTech simulated the magnetic flux density levels emanating from selected electrical gear and distribution systems during peak loads within the Laboratory Interface Science & Engineering (LISE) building based on the electronic drawings files dated 15 December 2003 and updated information provided by Predrag Ciric, Electrical Designer at Bard, Rao + Athanas Consulting Engineers, LLC.
The Harvard LISE project team defined 1 mG Brms (equivalent to 3 mG Bp-p) as the maximum acceptable AC ELF EMI threshold in the basement Imaging Rooms and ground floor Cleanroom laboratory areas. Three tools required levels less than 1 mG Brms: SEM Hitachi 6200 (2 mG Hor & 0.5 mG Vert), TEM JOEL 2010 (0.2 mG Hor & 0.3 mG Vert Bp-p) and SEM JOEL 6400 (0.5 mG) as noted on the attached drawings.
VitaTech was the shielding specifier and engineered the original shield designs for the project.
